France Travel Planner by Tom Brosnahan & Jane Fisher   Trains Paris - Chartres, France
Go by train from Paris to Chartres in one hour—it's easy.

Twenty trains per day depart Paris's Gare Montparnasse for Chartres. The trip takes about an hour each way.

Enter the Gare Montparnasse, ascend the escalator and follow the signs to Billets to buy your ticket. Unless you're buying it in advance, go to départ immédiate. An adult one-way/single ticket, 2nd class, costs about 16.

Ticket in hand, make your way to the proper track for departure.

There are toilets on the trains.

When you arrive in Chartres, leave the station and walk stright up the hill to the town square (with public toilets), then left—you'll see the spires of the cathedral with its splendid stained glass windows.

The Office du Tourisme is on the way just before you reach the cathedral.
