Nancy, 350 km (217 miles) east of Paris and 56 km (35 miles) south of Metz (map), is easy to reach from Paris by frequent trains. PlaneLuxembourg Airport (LUX), 126 km (78 miles) due north of Nancy (map), is the nearest international airport, connected to Metz and Nancy by Flibco airport buses. More... TrainFast, frequent TGV and Ouigo trains can speed you from Paris's Gare de l'Est to the Gare de Nancy SNCF (sometimes termed Gare de Nancy-Ville) in as little as 90 minutes. Slower Intercités trains can do it in under three hours. The Gare de Nancy SNCF is at Place Thiers, 900 meters (1/2 mile) southwest of the Place Stanislas and the Vieille Ville-Léopold, a walk of about 12 to 15 minutes (map). The station's two main halls are named Thiers and Foch, names which you may see on directional signs. Most trains from the Gare de Nancy are regional TER trains to Bar-le-Duc, Luxembourg, Metz, Neufchâteau, and other regional destinations, with dozens of daily trains between Nancy and Metz (travel time: 1 hour). There's at least one daily non-stop TGV train to/from Paris (1.5 hours). SNCF buses (cars) connect Vittel (Gare de Vittel SNCF) with Nancy (Place République) and the daily TGV trains from the Gare de Nancy to Paris (Gare de l'Est). There is also TGV train service to the Gare de Lorraine TGV station at Louvigny, 37 km (23 miles) north of the Gare de Nancy in Louvigny, on the Paris-to-Strasbourg TGV line (map). (This TGV station is 8 km (5 miles) southwest of Lorraine Airport.) Shuttle buses connect the Gare de Lorraine with the Gare de Nancy in about 35 minutes. Fast trains from the Gare de Lorraine TGV can take you to Bordeaux, Lille, Nantes and Rennes without having to pass through Paris. BusThe main intercity bus terminal in Nancy is at Place de la République, corner of Avenue Foch and Boulevard Joffre (map). Local bus and tram transport in Nancy is by Le réseau Stan, a Transdev organization. There is a useful smartphone app available to help you navigate the system. Many bus and tram stops have ticket machines near them so you can buy your pass (ticket) before boarding the tram or bus. CarAt the crossroads of the A31 and A33 express highways (map), Nancy is easy to reach by car. As usual, entering the city for the first time, unfamiliar with the routes and traffic, is not easy, but signage is good, including to the several car parking lots.
