France Travel Planner by Tom Brosnahan & Jane Fisher   Cathédrale de Reims Sound & Light
Reims began offering spectacular sound and light shows on the Cathedral's 800th birthday in 2011. The shows continue, changing from year to year.

Admiring 800 year old cathedrals today takes a bit of imagination. What did it look like when it was built? What did the people look like?

You can get a good idea by witnessing the impressive sound and light show at the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Reims.

The town of Reims offers this delightful show for free during the summer months so you can see the Cathédrale Notre-Dame in all its historic glory.

The presentation is informal: just walk down to the Parvis (the plaza in front of the Cathédrale), stand there and enjoy the show, which lasts about 25 minutes (though you needn't watch the whole thing).

There are shows each evening from the end of May through September. After each show, the Cathedral is illuminated in static colors for several minutes. Starting times vary with the time of nightfall through the summer. Check here or with the Tourist Office or your hotel for specific dates and times.

The sound and light shows provide a new perspective on the Cathédrale and its construction:
