Cyrano de Bergerac is Bergerac's most famous citizen, even though he's only a character in a romantic novel. But Cyrano put his "home town" on the map of world literature, and so he is honored by statues and mementoes throughout the town. Look for statues of Cyrano here and there as you wander the medieval streets. Bergerac's museums are interesting, one devoted to Bergerac wines and the wine trade, another to tobacco which, though currently in disrepute, is an aromatic medicinal herb with a long and fascinating history.
