France Travel Planner by Tom Brosnahan & Jane Fisher   L'Abri du Poisson, Les Eyzies, France
A small cave with a beautiful carving of a fish. What makes it special? It's 25,000 years old!

Near Les Eyzies is the small Abri du Poisson, a prehistoric shelter.

It gets its name from the beautiful carving of a salmon, a fish which once thrived in the area.

The carving is about a meter long (3 feet) and is believed to be 25,000 years old, making it one of the oldest known representations of a fish.

The site has very limited opening hours on Tuesdays (and Fridays in the summer). Tickets and information are available at the Font-de-Gaume Information Booth, near Les Eyzies.
