France Travel Planner by Tom Brosnahan & Jane Fisher   Hotels in Angers, France
There's a useful concentration of moderately-priced hotels near the train station, and lots more dispersed around the city. Find the one for you depending on your reasons for visiting Angers.

Angers is well laid out for a visit of a night or two: many hotels are located just outside the door of the city's main train station, the Gare d'Angers Saint-Laud SNCF, which is also the location of most car-rental offices.

One hotel, the nice little two-star, 19-room Hôtel Marguerite d'Anjou, is more central, just opposite the mighty walls of the Château d'Angers and across the street from the Office de Tourisme. We had a comfortable, air-conditioned room here with a fine view of the château. We were happy we had booked a premium room, since it had AC (other rooms may not), and it got to 40°C/104°F while we were there!

The genial proprietors, Pierre-Louis and Christophe, also operate the friendly, sedate café-bar on the ground floor.

Near the Train Station

Get off the train, exit the Gare d'Angers Saint-Laud, and you'll find several good hotels right opposite the station.

We've stayed comfortably and thriftily at the friendly, family-run 3-star, 29-room Hôtel de Champagne, but the 3-star, 41-room Hôtel Le Progrès would have been a good choice as well, as would the 2-star, 45-room Citotel de l'Universe and the 3-star, 52-room Grand Hotel de la Gare.

The thrifty 2-star, 25-room Hôtel Iena is only one block north of the train station.
