Honfleur is a small city focused around the Vieux Bassin, or old harbor, today a marina for pleasure craft. Just walking around the harbor and down the narrow streets offers plenty to see and do. Honfleur is on the Seine estuary.

The harborside is lined with restaurants, and there are plenty of opportunities to have a meal or a café and enjoy the passing scene. Fishermen bring their catch to the harbor, and boats abound.

La Lieutenance, the former home of the king's representative, is located next to the bridge in the harbor. Dating from the 16th century, the stone facade is impressive.

Honfleur's Église Ste-Catherine is notable for being built entirely of wood, very unusual for churches in France.

The small Musée de la Marine, or Maritime Museum, also faces the harbor. And in season, a carousel is available to delight children of all ages.

The Musée Eugène Boudin offers a large collection of works by Boudin, as well as paintings by his friend Claude Monet and other artists of the region.

Honfleur is also known as the birthplace of musician and composer Erik Satie (1866 - 1925). His home is now a museum that paints a vivid picture of this fascinating man.

A series of parks and gardens are pleasant places to stroll along the water. You will see a variety of plants, sculptures, and play areas, as well as the Naturospace, a large butterfly museum. The walk also gives views of the Seine and across to the port of Le Havre.

A modern addition to the Honfleur area is the Pont de Normandie, which opened in 1995 and makes for a swift connection between Honfleur and Le Havre.
