France Travel Planner by Tom Brosnahan & Jane Fisher   Albertville, France Guide
Host town of the 1992 Winter Olympics, Albertville is attractive, good for a stop, a meal or even overnight.

Albertville is a pretty town in the French Alps best known as the host town of the 1992 Winter Olympic Games held in various French alpine towns.

Located right in the middle of the French Alps region, Albertville is 44 km (27 miles) southeast of Annecy, 64 km (40 miles) southwest of Chamonix, and 82 km (51 miles) northeast of Grenoble. (map)

Pleasant enough for a stop, a meal, or overnight, Albertville has sufficient good hotels, a helpful office de tourisme, a pretty and historic main street, and the grand Le Dôme theater in the Place de l'Europe built and used for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1992 Winter Olympics.
