France Travel Planner by Tom Brosnahan & Jane Fisher   Transport for Colmar, Alsace, France
Colmar is easily accessible by train—even by direct TGV from Paris.

The Gare de Colmar SNCF is a fine turn-of-the-century (1905) fantasy building just over 1 km (7/10 mile) southwest of the city center.

TER Elsass regional trains connect Colmar with Strasbourg and other cities numerous times daily. The ride between Colmar and Strasbourg takes about 1/2 hour.

Several TGV trains daily connect Colmar with Paris's Gare de l'Est via Strasbourg. When you check train times and fares, you may find that the TGV between Strasbourg and Colmar is not much more expensive, and it's usually more comfortable.

City buses in Colmar go from the Gare to the center, but it's more pleasant to walk:

Walk out of the station by the front doors, cross the plaza and turn left on avenue de la République. Walk through the shady park called place de la Champ de Mars and the place Rapp plaza, then wander northeast a few more minutes to reach the historic center.
