Orléans is an easy-walking city, well laid out for a quick visit if that's what you want. Staying overnight is also easy, as there are plenty of good hotels only a few minutes' walk from the Gare d'Orléans SNCF at the northern end of the Rue de la République. In fact the buildings on this street, constructed around the turn of the century (c. 1900), are a virtual museum of art nouveau architecture. The 4-star, 35-room Best Western Hôtel d'Arc is the imposing art nouveau façade on the right (west) side of Rue de la République as you walk south from the Gare d'Orléans. Rates are good, the location couldn't be better (on a quiet pedestrian street), and you'll be staying in an architectural monument. More... Just around the corner is the smaller, lower-priced 3-star, 26-room Hôtel de l'Abeille (Bee Hotel), named for the logo and weathervane of the fine art nouveau building it occupies. The location is great, as is the café-bar. The fitness room, massage chairs, garden and top-floor sun room come as a pleasant surprise. More... Talk about central, the 3-star, 19-room Hôtel d'Orléans is only 50 meters from the Place du Martroi, and only 450 meters (1/4 mile, 5-minute walk) south of the Gare d'Orléans train station. Chic and modern, it has comfortable guest room, a bar, and restaurants nearby. More... The 4-star, 33-room Empreinte Hotel & Spa is in a different, also good location overlooking the Loire River by the Pont George V near the southern end of Rue Royale. Decorated in a modern style, it has a spa, hot tub and bar, and is only 600 meters (656 yards) south of the Place du Martroi with its equestrian statue of Joan of Arc. More...
