Situated just across the street from the popular Musée d'Orsay, the Musée National de la Légion d'Honneur et des Ordres de Chevalerie houses a collection of various French awards and decorations, including the Legion of Honor and other orders of merit. There are rooms and rooms filled with golden necklaces and medals, as well as various badges and other symbols. Exhibits focus on the men who have been awarded the Legion of Honor over the years. The Museum is housed in the Palais de la Légion d'Honneur, also known as the Hôtel de Salm. Dating from the late 18th century, it was destroyed by fire in 1871 and rebuilt soon thereafter.
