Detail of woodwork on the Kammerzell, Strasbourg, France

La Maison Kammerzell is said to be the most beautiful house in Strasbourg, and is certainly one of the oldest. Built in 1427, and elaborated in the 16th century, it takes its name from its 19th century owner, Philippe Kammerzell, who was a grocer.

Located just across from the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg, the Maison Kammerzell is today a three-star hotel and has several restaurants serving Alsatian fare. Several different dining rooms on the different floors provide a variety of decors and settings.

The Maison Kammerzell must be one of the most photographed buildings in Strasbourg. Its distinctive roof lines and elaborate decor make it a feast for the eyes. Intricate carvings and painting, and old glass windows make a lovely presentation.

And it's conveniently located just next to the Tourist Information Office on the Place de la Cathédrale.
