Épernay is a small town of about 25,000 people, on the Marne River in the Champagne region of France (map). Most of its major sights are accessible on foot. Épernay's main street is the Avenue de Champagne. One of the town's principal squares is the Place de Champagne. Street names include Möet, Chandon (both Jean and Paul), and Mercier. Get the picture? Avenue de ChampagneThe Avenue de Champagne is the most famous street in Épernay, home to many of the big name champagne producers, including Möet et Chandon, Perrier Jouet, Pol Roger, and Mercier. Mill'BullesÉpernay also has its own tourist train, known appropriately as the Mill'Bulles, or Thousand Bubbles. This runs in the summer months and provides information on the history of Épernay. The route takes you the length of the Avenue de Champagne, as well as past other landmarks in the town. Tethered balloonIn 2018 Épernay converted a former parking lot into a park, and included there a tethered balloon. Going up in the balloon provides aerial views of the town. Promoters say you can follow the progress from the vineyards to the cellars, and even enjoy a glass of champagne while riding.
