Yes, Chartres is easy to visit on a day-trip excursion from Paris, but there are lots of reasons to stay overnight here:

—First and foremost, Chartres en lumières, the wonderful artistic laser light show each evening in the warm months. More...

—You'll get more hotel for your money in Chartres than in Paris: get the comfort you want for a lower price, or upgrade to more comfort.

—If you want to get out of the big city of Paris and visit a smaller French town for a day or two, Chartres is a fine choice.

Top Hotels

The 4-star Best Western Hotel Grande Monarque is among Chartres' most central and comfortable places to stay. Why not take in the sights of Chartres, then relax in the spa, sauna and hamam? Two restaurants are yours, and many others, along with shopping streets, are just across the Place des Epars. More...

The modern, elegant 4-star Jehan de Beauce - Chateau & Hotels Collection faces the train station across the Place Pierre Sémard, only a 10-minute walk from the cathedral. The location is very convenient, and excellent soundproofing means that you'll sleep soundly. More...

The modern Timhotel Chartres Cathédrale is not far from the cathedral, but even closer to the train station, making it convenient for both places. Many rooms have views of the cathedral spires, and the hotel has its own large car parking lot. More...

Near the Train Station

A half-dozen hotels are right near the Gare de Chartres SNCF, which is only about half a kilometer (less than a 10-miute walk) from the cathedral.

The romantically-named Hôtel des Poèmes de Chartres is right across Place Pierre Sémard from the train station, and next to the upscale Jehan de Beauce - Chateau & Hotels Collection. Rooms are tidy, and budget-priced. The location, 550 meters (less than a 10-minute walk)from the cathedral, makes it a convenient choice. More...

Best Bed & Breakfast Inns

Our favorite bed-and-breakfast in Chartres is the pristine, very friendly 4-room L'escale en Couleur, 6 rue Daniel Boutet near the Hôtel de Ville. The owner, Mme Carole Laiseau, provides a warm welcome and helpfulness in everything.

Mme Laiseau has many artist friends and has decorated "The Color Stop" with their help.

Three upstairs guest rooms and one ground-floor studio apartment are available here. Breakfast—included in the rate—is served in the oak-beamed grenier at the top of the house. A lounge with coffee- and tea-making supplies is available for guests at all hours. More...
