Christmas Lights in Paris, France
The City of Light lives up to its name all the time, but never more so than at Christmas.

There is no shortage of Christmas lights in Paris, and part of what makes them interesting is that individual neighborhoods choose different types and quantities of lights. Strolling at night, you can see a great variety of lights and decorations. When we spent Christmas 2015 in Paris, we rented an apartment in the Rue Mouffetard neighborhood. As suits the casual ambience of this market and restaurant area, the lights were simple and a bit funky. Near the Opéra things were a bit more formal and extravagant. We passed this delightful display on the Rue de Caumartin (map) when we walked to the Église de la Madeleine for a holiday concert: Wandering through the Marais, we were treated to a display of stars down many streets. We also visited the fun Rue Montorgueil neighborhood, which has emerged in the past few years as a very trendy and lively area. Its lights show off the street and its many restaurants. And of course you want to see the Champs-Elysées, with its many decorated Christmas trees and street lights, topped by the Roue de Paris at the Place de la Concorde. City of Lights? You bet!
