Paris Travel Planner   Claude Monet in Paris, France
If you love Monet (and who doesn't?) Paris is a great place to be, with lots of his work easily accessible. If you don't know Monet's work, Paris is the place to fall in love with it.

Claude Monet, considered by many to be the founder of Impressionism, was a prolific artist who has left the world with many gorgeous paintings. Many of these are in Paris, so you can easily get immersed in Monet in this city.

Visiting all four of these sites within a short period of time, as I was fortunate enough to do, gives you a wonderful appreciation for the artist and the evolution of Monet's art, and the evolution of Impressionism.

Here are some of the best places to see Monet's work in Paris:

Orangerie

Monet's Water Lilies at the Orangerie

The Orangerie is home to the amazing water lilies, or Nymphéas. This small museum near the Place de la Concorde provides an exquisite setting for these huge masterpieces, which Monet donated to President Clemenceau just after the Armistice of 1918.

Musée d'Orsay

The Musée d'Orsay, with its amazing Impressionist collection, boasts many Monet paintings, including several versions of La Cathédrale de Rouen, some paintings from his gardens in Giverny, and La Gare Saint-Lazare.

Musée Marmottan Monet

The Musée Marmottan Monet contains the largest collection of Monet paintings in the world. Its collection includes Impression: Sunrise, (1872) one of the first paintings in this style, which gave rise to the word Impressionism.

Giverny

Giverny, France

A day trip to Monet's home in Giverny allows you to see the artist's inspiration. The magnificent gardens, full of colors, were the subject of many of his paintings. Monet himself created the water lily pond which then was his inspiration for the last years of his life.
