Most French towns have several hotels right next to the train station. Arles does not, but it's only a 10- or 15-minute walk from the train station to the center—and you don't even have to walk: a free navette (shuttle bus) will trundle you between the station and the center.

How about a hotel very year the famous Roman amphitheater? That would be the moderately-priced Hôtel de l'Amphithéâtre, only half a block west of Arles's most prominent Roman monument, right in the historic center, walking distance to everything.
