The Musée des Impressionismes opened in 2009, replacing the former American Art Museum in Giverny. It does not have a permanent collection, but rather offers a series of changing special exhibitions, all relating to the impressionist movement in art. The museum opened with a show called Le jardin de Monet a Giverny: l'invention d'un paysage, which included many works by Monet. But the Museum's scope is broader than just Monet: the use of Impressionismes (plural) is meant to imply all aspects of impressionism around the world, and its influence on future movements and artists. The Museum presents exhibitions on a range of impressionist artists and themes. An exhibition in 2010 is titled L'impressionisme au fil de la Seine, or Impressionism along the Seine. Given Giverny's reputation for gardens, the Musée des Impressionismes also boasts beautiful plantings. Recognized by the Ministry of Culture and Communication as a Jardin remarquable, the gardens use the natural landscape as well as monochromatic flower beds, separated by hedges. The Museum is also home to the Terra Café, a lovely place for lunch or tea during your visit to Giverny. The Musée des Impressionismes jointly administered by the Musée d'Orsay in Paris and the Terra Foundation, former manager of the American Art Museum. Musée des Impressionismes
